Balance and Community

Do you have that one person or group of people in your life that balances you out? The warrior to your yogi. The one in your life who is rock? The one that provide you a sense of stability, solid ground, balance and occasionally that swift kick in the ass when you need it most. We all need that person or people that provide us a sense of community and support to manage all the crazy that can be life. Whether its the encouragement to give you that extra push or that shoulder to cry on when shit just hits the fan, we all need that person!

I am lucky to have a badass twin sister @gulote01 who also happens to be a badass therapist (thanks for free therapy!) who is my rock, the one I do life with. We have encouraged, supported, stood by each other and also pushed and empowered each other to be strong, confident, self-assured women. We cannot do this crazy thing called life alone! And we should all be lifting each other up to be better more badass versions of ourselves. .

Dinner Prep

Quick, easy and simple dinner tonight! This took me less than 10 minutes to make and the BONUS is that I made enough for another three meals. The SECRET everything (expect the turkey burger) was either microwaved or taken out of a container! 😲Sometimes thats just what it has to be and thats OK! Things can crazy and you literally just have to do what works. You can still eat well without being a gourmet chef. I certainly am not one but I do try to make the best choices with what I have.

Turkey burger which I seasoned with salt and pepper, frozen broccoli and cauliflower rice which I microwaved and guacamole 🥑that was pre-made. Literally scooped it out of the container. And YES nutritionist do eat like this sometimes! Do not fret the frozen stuff! And do not feel badly if that is what you have to do on some nights. Make the best choices possible and keep it moving. 💪🏻

What tricks do you have to eat healthy when time is an issue and things get crazy?

The face of FRUSTRATION. Today I went out for my first run 🏃🏻‍♀️since my marathon. I planned to do 3-5 miles, but my body had a different plan. Less than a mile in my knee started acting up, my quads were on fire and I just felt like I couldn’t go any further. I thought to myself WTF I had just run 26 miles a little more than a week ago. How is it possible that I can’t even run a mile. Then came the internal dialogue of whats wrong with me? Why can’t I do this? I will be disappointed in myself if I stop. But then I realized that I JUST ran a marathon more than a week ago! My body carried me through that and I was capable just not today. My body just wasnt recovered enough and there was no reason to be so negative. I didn’t give up and go home but just readjusted and instead a did a run/walk for 3 miles. Not what I planned but it was something and that was enough.

Whether its the first run after a marathon or your first time getting back into working out after many months or years or another attempt at “eating healthy” we all set out with expectations of what we think and want to do and sometimes we do not meet those expectations. And we start down the road of negative self-talk and self-doubt. We question if we are capable of what we set out to do. We get frustrated and want to give up. DO NOT GIVE UP! .
.
Listen to your body and do what is best. Don’t go down that road of self-doubt. Just because you can’t do something you did a week ago, a month ago or even a year ago don’t get frustrated with yourself. Readjust, reassess and figure out what is possible for you to do. Be kind to yourself and recognize that just because you can’t do what you expected doesn’t mean you are incapable of something else. Don’t give up or give in just find another way. Keep moving. 💪🏻

When faced with the frustration of what you expect yourself and body to do versus what actual happens what do you do?

Salad Prep

Salad prep for dinner. Simple, easy and quick to assemble. This salad takes me literally 5 minutes to make. Getting this picture taken for Instagram took me longer than it takes to make this salad 😜
.
.
The base is arugula, then add cherry tomatoes, orange and yellow peppers, broccoli, cucumber, carrots, broccoli, jalapeño (cause I love spice), and shaved almonds and chic peas for some crunch. The protein source is ground turkey. To save time I cut all the vegetables and prepped the turkey meat over the weekend. Being prepared and prepped helps ensure that you make healthy choices at meal time.

Smiling at the start, in the middle and at the end. What an amazing race! Felt great the whole way and had a good kick at the end which I was really happy about. Got a bit teary eyed just past mile 25 thinking about all the hard work and dedication that went into this today. I felt the weight of how strong I can be when I am focused, determined and put the work in! Even when life got in the way I stayed the course and never lost sight of the end goal. What an amazing feeling to recognize your strengths. Congrats to all the runners out there that dug in, ran hard and never gave up! Oh and my Hall and Oats shirt was a hit!
